Her research focuses on religion, atheism, and lived ideology in Soviet and post-Soviet Russia. In her current ethnographic research, she focuses on anti-abortion activism in the post-Soviet Russian Orthodox Church. Sonja Luehrmann is the\u00a0author of\u00a0<em>Secularism Soviet Style: Teaching Atheism and Religion in a Volga Republic\u00a0<\/em>(Indiana, 2011)<em>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Religion in Secular Archives: Soviet Atheism and Historical Knowledge\u00a0<\/em>(Oxford, 2015).
